Furry Places ("we", "us", "our") operates the Furry Places mobile app and website (collectively, the "Service") to help pet owners find pet-friendly establishments, report missing pets, discover community events, and connect with shelters. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.
Information We Collect
Account information
When you create an account, we collect your name, email address, and password (or, if you sign in with Google, the profile information Google provides). We also support anonymous accounts that let you use core features before registering.
Location
With your permission, we use your device's precise location to show nearby establishments, events, and missing-pet reports, and to power distance-based search. We also use coarse, IP-based location as a fallback when precise location isn't available. You can deny or revoke location access at any time in your device settings.
Content you submit
We collect the establishments, reviews, photos, pet profiles, missing-pet reports, events, and shelter listings you submit, along with any messages or notes attached to them. Photos you upload are stored in our object storage and served back to you and other users.
Usage and device data
We use PostHog to collect analytics such as pages viewed, features used, device and browser type, and approximate location, so we can understand how the Service is used and improve it.
Push notifications and email
If you opt in, we collect a device push token (via Firebase Cloud Messaging on mobile, or a Web Push subscription on the web) or your email address to send you notifications about topics you follow — for example nearby missing-pet alerts, event reminders, or updates on your submissions. You can turn these off at any time in the app's notification settings.
How We Use Your Information

- To send notifications and emails you've opted into
- To moderate content and enforce our community guidelines
- To detect, prevent, and address fraud, abuse, and security issues

How We Share Your Information
We do not sell your personal information. We share information only with:
- Service providers who process data on our behalf, including Cloudflare (hosting, storage, and bot/CAPTCHA protection), our database provider, PostHog (analytics), Resend (transactional email), Firebase (mobile push notifications), and Google (sign-in and, on the web, advertising via Google AdSense)
- Other users, for content you choose to make public — such as reviews, photos, event listings, and missing-pet reports
- Social platforms — when an establishment, event, or shelter you submitted is approved, we may post a public spotlight about it (not your personal account information) to our Facebook Page and Instagram account
- Law enforcement or authorities when required by law or to protect the rights, safety, and security of our users or the public
Cookies and Advertising
On the web, we use cookies and similar technologies to keep you signed in, remember your preferences, measure usage (via PostHog), and — where enabled — serve advertising through Google AdSense.
Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this website or other websites. Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this site and/or other sites on the Internet. You may opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings. You can also opt out of many third-party vendors' use of cookies for personalized advertising at aboutads.info, or, if you're in the EU, at youronlinechoices.eu.
Most browsers let you block or delete cookies through their settings. Blocking cookies may limit some features of the Service, such as staying signed in.
Data Retention
We retain your account and content for as long as your account is active. Missing-pet reports expire automatically after a period of inactivity unless renewed. You can request deletion of your account and associated data at any time (see "Your Choices" below).
Your Choices
- Access and update: You can view and edit your profile, pets, and submissions from your account settings.
- Delete: You can delete individual listings, reviews, and photos you've submitted, or request deletion of your entire account by contacting us below.
- Location: You can disable location access in your device or browser settings; some features will be limited without it.
- Notifications: You can unsubscribe from push notifications and emails at any time from the app's notification settings or the unsubscribe link in our emails.
Children's Privacy
The Service is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.
Security
We use industry-standard measures — including encrypted connections, hashed passwords, and access controls — to protect your information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we'll update the "Last updated" date above and, where appropriate, notify you through the Service.
